Coard: America s Father of Gynecology experimented on enslaved Black women

In just a few days, it’ll be exactly 136 years ago that Dr. J. Marion Sims died on November 13, 1883. In the famous words of the great Jackie “Moms” Mabley, “They say you shouldn’t say nothin’ about the dead unless it’s good. He’s dead. Good!” It is good that this particular person, Sims, is dead. In fact, if he had never been born, twelve enslaved Black women would’ve never had to endure the unimaginably hellish, the brutally excruciating, and the devastatingly humiliating medical torture he sadistically inflicted upon them without any anesthesia whatsoever.
