At least 64 dead after Brazil police raids Rio neighbourhood

A massive police operation in Rio de Janeiro has killed at least 64 people, making it Brazil s deadliest security force action on record. More than 2,500 officers and special forces raided the Alemão and Penha favelas before dawn on Tuesday, targeting the Red Command, one of Brazil s most powerful criminal organisations. The slums, home to around 300,000 residents, lie near Rio s international airport. Four police officers were among the dead. Eight officers and four residents were wounded.
